The Aerodrome Hotel is located in
Croydon which is just South from London. This location is convenient for Gatwick
Airport (train service) as well as giving good links into London since its
actually on the A23 dual carriageway. This goes north into central London or
south to link with the M25 (which will get you to Gatwick airport). Croydon
itself is a major town in its own right with plenty of amenities and shopping.
The large Centrale shopping centre is just 1.5 miles from the hotel. Nearest
attractions include Heritage Centre (2 miles), Addington Palace (3.2 miles)
(mansion dating back to the 1700's in a large grounds), Crystal Palace Museum
(4.5 miles), Wimbledon Tennis Museum (6.7 miles), Fulham Palace (9 miles), Eltham
Palace (9.5 miles) and the Old Royal Observatory (9.7 miles). The Aerodrome Classic is an art-deco style hotel. Bedrooms are en-suite with key card access. Other in-room amenities include interactive plasma television with Pay movies and games and also has a web browser with high speed internet, broadband connection for laptop, Direct-dial phone, Coffee/tea maker, Hair dryer, minibar, Clock radio and Trouser press. Range of configurations including singles, doubles and twins. The better grade bedrooms come with a guest robe. The hotel features a Popular air conditioned Restaurant, The Rayon d’Or Brasserie (the name was an aircraft that flew between Paris and Croydon and was the first fine dining aircraft in the world in the early 1920's). Serves a French and European menu. Includes vegetarian options. There are two bars, the Amy Johnson Bar and restaurant (a famous female pilot) and the Rayon d’Or Bar and they both serve a range of snacks, as does the hotel lounge area. Come the summer months and weather permitting the hotel patio and garden areas are available for guests to sit and enjoy a drink and snack in. The hotel can cater for functions and events thanks to its 5 Flexible Conference And Meeting Rooms. Suitable for small meetings or for up to 170 theatre style. A courtesy shuttle service operates from the hotel to transfer guests to the nearby east Croydon station between 07.00 and 18.00. Opposite the hotel is a bus stop on the 289 and 119 routes. |

| History: First opened in 1928 the Aerodrome Hotel was the first UK hotel
purpose built to serve an airport, in this case Croydon Airport (closed 1959)
which was also the first ever international airport. In 2007 changed name from Aerodrome Classic Hotel. In 2007 the hotel underwent a £2 million pound refurbishment. Improvements included a new elevator in the hotels glass atrium and added twenty four deluxe bedrooms. |
