Down Hall is an historic country house Hotel located on the
Hertfordshire/Essex border within easy reach of London and
Stansted Airport and with a history dating back to 1540 (the
site itself dates back to 1322 when records show a monastery stood on this site).

Set in over 100 acres of scenic countryside, park, landscaped gardens and woodland, you will discover a Victorian mansion brimming with charm, style and elegance. A genuine English country mansion in an Italianate style, now used to provide hotel accommodation for the guest looking for something out of the norm. The front of the hotel faces the winding drive that guests will access the entrance by as they reach this honey coloured mansion. Once inside you will first be greeted by the high and richly decorated ceilings and views out over the hotel grounds which even includes a helicopter pad. The Down Hall Hotel offers a traditional setting with real log fires and tapestries decorating the walls. Enjoy any of the 99 bedrooms and feature rooms, designed to complement the elegant surroundings. In-room you will find WiFi high speed internet access, desk area, iron/ironing board, tea/coffee facilities, television and radio. Each bedroom has its own private marble bathroom with bathrobes, shower and bath. here are a range of room type including executive class and some feature bedrooms. The feature rooms have 2 and 4 poster beds, many enjoy views out over the hotels landscaped grounds and garden. Some bedrooms on the ground floor have their own patio access. 24 hour rooms service. When it comes to dining you have a choice of two restaurants. The Ibbetsons restaurant is a 2 AA rosettes holder and has an intimate setting for fine dining. Open: Thursday till Saturday, 19.00 till 21.30. The Grill Room is the main restaurant and a bistro-style venue. Here the menu is seasonal with the chef using locally produced fresh produce. Open: 12.30 till 14.00 (closed Saturday), 19.00 till 21.45. The hotel lounge serves traditional English tea. In winter a real log fire blazes creating a warm atmosphere. Tea is served between 14.00 and 17.00 and consists of sandwiches, scones with clotted cream, pastries and cakes. (unlimited tea or coffee is included in the price) 26 meeting/function rooms means there something to suit all types of events. They have high tech amenities including WiFi and make use of natural daylight. The largest room candle up to 200 guests. Leisure facilities include a full size heated indoor swimming pool (07.00 till 21.00). |
