Introduction: The Metropolitan Hotel first opened in February 1997. Under the shadow of the Hilton Park Lane the hotel enjoys the same benefits from this location at the Hyde Park Corner end of Park Lane. Right opposite the hotel is the wonderful Hyde Park. Here there is so much to do and see with and less landscaped gardens and statues throughout along with several snacks bars and restaurants, a lake with boating and the Serpentine gallery. The Park itself joins seamlessly with Kensington Park Gardens where at its far end is the Dianna memorial fountain and Kensington palace, where Diana Princess of Wales lived. Just the other side of Hyde Park Corner you have the start of the grounds of Buckingham Palace (the palace itself is less than half a mile away) bordered by Green park while to the West is the start of Knightsbridge. Perhaps synonymous with Harrods department store but a major upmarket shopping area in its own right. The hotel is less than 200 yards from Piccadilly to the south where again there's a good range of shops including Fortnum and Mason and which leads down to Piccadilly Circus (0.7 miles) which is really the heart of tourist London (in the opinion of milesfaster.co.uk ) and the major night-time spots (including what's known as Theatre Land). The hotel of course is on the border of Mayfair and one of the most affluent spots to live in the UK. Its favoured by many large corporations as a site for offices because of the kudos having a Mayfair address brings. 0.7 miles to the north is Marble Arch and Oxford Street while Bond Street and its exclusive fashion and Jewellery shops is less than half a mile to the east. Park Lane is  busy main road and Hyde Park Corner one of London's busiest junctions, however there are underpasses' for pedestrians' so this is not a problem. Actually within the centre of The junction is an area for sitting for pedestrians and here are points of interest such as Wellington Arch and some statues such as the memorial to the machine gun corps of the first world war. Opposite the junction is Number One London, Apsley House which was the former home of the Duke of Wellington. All in all an ideal location for a sightseeing holiday with good transport links and easy access to the major attractions.
