Introduction: The Rookery Hotel, 1764 London is located
on the western edge of the City of London (the financial centre known as the
square mile) in an area known as Clerkenwell (once known as Little Italy thanks
to its past large Italian population). Close to Holborn and the major arts and
events centre at Barbican (0.4 miles). The hotel is made up from a quaint row of
restored 18th century Georgian Houses originally built in 1764. The hotel is
walking distance from two stations which are on both the tube network and the
national rail network (Farringdon and Barbican stations). Being to the west of
the the city of London means the location is also closer to the main tourist
areas and London's West End (main area for nightlife) with Piccadilly Circus
being just 1.5 miles to the west. Less than 100 yards to the south is the major
meat market of Smithfield's which has been operating here for over 800 years
handling over 120,000 tons of produce annually. You will find a selection of
bars and shops in the local vicinity but this part of London tends to be
relatively quiet on weekends although there are some clubs close by in places
like Shoreditch and Hoxton. Clerkenwell was actually home to the first of the
new breed of gastropubs (pubs with high quality onsite food) at 'The Eagle', 159
Farringdon Road. Nearest places of interest include the
Museum of
London (0.3 miles),
St Pauls
Cathedral (0.5 miles),
Dickens
House (0.6 miles), Sadler's Wells Theatre (0.6 miles),
Sir John
Soames Museum (0.7 miles) and the
Millennium
Bridge (0.7 miles).
Hotel:
The Rookery Hotel has a homely feel and a period style along with open fires, stone
flagged floors, mellow panelling, antique furnishings and works of art amongst
its decor. More like a private club rather than the standard hotel you may have
come to expect in this part of London and in this regard is much suited to the
business traveller looking for accommodation near the financial centre of
London.
All bedrooms are individual in makeup and furnished with antiques and each
features air-conditioning. Helping to add to the feel and character of this
hotel each room is named after a former resident from the past 250 years of the
buildings history. In-room amenities include free Wi-Fi internet access, flat
screen satellite TV, minibar and safe. Bathrooms keep faith to the period style
with Victorian fittings. Some bathrooms have Victorian tubs/free standing
claw-footed bath with large shower heads.
In the standard bedrooms you'll find a carved 18th Century bed along with silk
drapes hanging from the windows.
Deluxe rooms: These are more spacious than the standard double rooms with four
poster beds and sitting area. In-room facilities include a DVD player and sofa.
The hotel does offer a room service for breakfast.
The hotel also has a penthouse suite which takes up 2 floors, this is called
'The Rook's Nest'. From the suite you can see out to famous landmarks such as St
Pauls Cathedral. The bed is wonderfully lavish with a sculpture on a plinth at
each corner. As well all the features of the other rooms the penthouse has a
stereo system and dining table.
The Rookery Hotel has 3 intimate meeting rooms each with antiques and old
paintings along with high tech facilities. These rooms are the Library, the
Conservatory (the largest and can accommodate up to 25 guests) and the Drawing
