Rydges Kensington Plaza Hotel

Description: On the Western border of central London is the Rydges Kensington Plaza Hotel. Close to the junction with the Cromwell Road which is the A4 dual carriageway, the main route by road into and out of London and giving direct access to Heathrow Airport. Close to major shopping areas at Kensington High Street, South Kensington and Knightsbridge. Also close by is the Earls Court Exhibition centre. A short walk away is the Natural History and Science museums and the Royal Albert and Victoria Museum. A little bit further on is the Royal Albert Hall, Kensington Palace and Hyde Park.

Rydges Kensington Plaza is formed from a row of Victorian 5-storey town houses first built 1854. Now a modern boutique style hotel on the doorstep to central London.

The onsite restaurant at the Rydges Hotel is the 'Jam Cupboard'. Internationally inspired contemporary international menu. As well as the dining the restaurant also serves wines and cocktails. The relaxing atmosphere is set by the candle lit tables accompanied by background easy listening music.
Open: 7.00 till 10.00 (weekends 07.30 till 10.30), 17.30 till 22.00.
The separate Polo Bar is a traditional pub with dark with wooden panelling, fireplace and old-style seating around low tables. Serves a bar menu (including homemade burgers) and shows sports events on its large screen TV. Happy hour 18.00 till 20.00.
Open daily from 16.00 till 23.00 (Saturday noon till 23.00, Sunday noon 22.30).

History: Originally built by William Blake, a brick layer. The main rooms for the families were located on the 1st floor where they had afternoon tea and painted in the high ceiling rooms with large windows. The stair cases were invariably of stone decorated with iron balusters. Service rooms were confined to the basement, accessed from the street by stone steps for housekeepers and butlers.
