The Saracens Head hotel is a former coaching Inn within 6 miles of
Stansted airport. The hotel has a 400 year history of providing accommodation in
the historic town of Great Dunmow and is opposite the Old Market Place with
history gong right back to 1540 (when it was built). First recorded as a coaching Inn in the 1700's.
Great Dunmow is one of England's handful of Flitch towns. This is a custom where
every 4 years a married couple have to convince a jury that they have not wanted
to be single for the last one year and one day in order to win a flitch of
bacon. The town itself offers several local pubs and shops including
supermarkets. Nearest attractions include Little Easton
Manor (1.73 miles), Gardens of Easton Lodge (2.27 miles) and Duxford War Museum
(7.38 miles).
The Saracens Head Great Dunmow is a two storey Georgian/Tudor styled hotel also
frequented by locals as a local pub. Its located in the high street of Great
Dunmow, right in the heart of the town.
