The City of London is the area to the East of the tourist areas of London which has become the financial centre of the UK. This area is also known as the Square Mile and takes in the postcodes of EC1, EC2, EC3 and EC4. Based in the City of London is the London Stock Exchange and a large number of headquarters for financial institutions from around the world. Recently with the development of the Canary Wharf and Docklands area there is some confusion over which areas now comprise the City of London. However while Canary Wharf is now a large financial sector in its own right its actually a little way removed from the City of London and is in the E14 postcode. For the purposes of this section the City of London centre is taken as being Finsbury Square at the North end of Moorgate in EC2.
