It roughly takes the shape of a triangle with points at Tower Bridge, Elephant and Castle and Lambeth Bridge. Areas here include the South Bank, Blackfriars, Southwark, Lambeth, Vauxhall, Borough and Waterloo. Mostly the area is known as Southwark which itself dates back to Roman times and has a population of well over a quarter of a million.
