The London postcode of W9 is called Maida vale and is a central London suburb. The area takes it name from a local pub that was located on the Edgware Road in the 19th century and was called 'The Hero of Maida'. Mostly a residential area with a mix of upmarket and expensive houses owned by the rich and famous alongside a large number of converted houses which are now studio flats and small flats (apartments). Perhaps best known for the stretch of Regents Canal that runs through it which is called Little Venice. It gets its name because of the similarities with the city of Venice with the many barge type boats that are moored permanently here and used as floating homes. Lords Cricket ground is located in W9 although this is normally thought of as being in St Johns wood where the actual main entrance is.
Maida Vale is bordered by the A5 (the section of that road that goes through W9 is actually called Maida Vale) which is one of Britain's longest roads, first constructed by the Romans, and stretching from Marble Arch in central London to Holyhead in Wales. On the Southern edge of Maida Vale is Paddington Station which is walking distance (if you have no luggage!).
