Notting Hill is an upmarket residential are with a chic and popular High Street in the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea. Made famous by the film of the same name this area was already thriving community centred around its High Street. Here you will find many boutique type shops along with bars and restaurants and also a cinema. The area is also famous for its annual Notting Hill Carnival, known as Europe's biggest street party, which centres around Ladbroke Grove which is at the West end of Notting Hill. Another area with Notting Hill that is well know globally is Portobello Road both for its Saturday antiques market and the shops that are open all week long. The High Street, or more correctly, Notting Hill Gate (names after the Turnpike gate that stood at this spot till the 19th century), is part of the A40 dual carriageway which goes all the way to Oxford and beyond.
