This hotel is definitely in need of refurbishment. \nThe fancy photos shown on their website look nothing like the room we were in. \nBelieve me when I say I try to find the positives in hotels. It was hard with this place. We stayed for 7 days. We only stayed here, as the hotel we were booked into cancelled about 9 days before our intended stay. \nThe positives! \n1/ Daily happy hour from 4-6! \n2/ The black out curtains - because they work! \n3/ We did manage to find a launderette in the area which saved us money rather than use the exorbitant charges the hotel would have charged to wash socks, underwear and hankies. Thank you google! \n\nThe negatives! \n 1/The position - it\u2019s listed as 600m from Canary Wharf Station it\u2019s more likely over a kilometre - over due to construction work in the area, terrain that is difficult for dragging suitcases. And due to construction the view out of the window is nonexistent. \n2/ The bed - most uncomfortable bed I\u2019ve slept in at a hotel in 30 years. \n3/ The pillows - so flat you need two of them. \n4/ No spare powerpoint close to the bed. So if you need to use a cpap machine you will need to rearrange their lamps or bring an extension cord. \n5/ The shower over the bath - if you are mobility challenged it is impossible to get in and out by yourself. \n6/ The tiny towels - most international hotels these days use large bath towels for drying yourself with, this place only uses the small ones. \n7/ The tiny tablets of soap - if you want to wash yourself bring your own standard soap. Plus the shampoo they supply is useless. They also don\u2019t leave a face washer in the room, which makes it hard to use the body wash they supply. \n8/ There is no fridge in the room so you can\u2019t keep a drink or anything else cold in your room. \n9/ The cleaning staff, while they did make the bed, we had to hide the almost empty roll of toilet paper, so they would leave us some the next day. How hard is it to leave a spare roll when there is only one on the holder? \n10/ The lifts are in need of a service. We were on the 10th floor. One day it took 7 minutes in the lift to get to the ground. They are very slow, stop at floors that aren\u2019t selected and often only 2 out 3 were working. \n11/ The temperature of the room - you can adjust it, you can only turn the fan up, so the room got very stuffy.

Haven\u2019t even arrived yet and I won\u2019t be! \n\nWhere do I start. Had a reservation booked for tomorrow for 2 nights (was not\u2019t cheap) for my birthday with my partner - got an email to say I needed to make payment even though the website says payment on arrival. Phoned central reservation who said because the hotel is busy they take \u00A3100 deposit and then you pay full balance at hotel and if your room is not damaged at the end of your stay you get \u00A3100 back.\n\nStaff at central reservations so rude! someone hung up on my partner when he asked for a manager. \n\nRang back and they were still very rude.\n\nso disappointed, ruined a birthday trip after everything that has happened with my Thomas cook booking.\n\ndo not stay with this hotel! stay away stay away

The most unfriendly greeting I've ever had at a hotel. The hotel was very very tired looking and the walls in the corridors had stains and marks on them. Very poor value for money considering what else London has to offer for that price. Wont be going back. My room which cost \u20ac175 for 2 nights had no windows?? Not even a bottle of water??

Not the best hotel in Canary Wharf, but all the staff are very friendly and they will make sure you are happy.compare with the prices in Canary Wharf it's super cheap so it's worth it. Do not expect anything very fancy.

The whole hotel was very dated with no atmosphere even in the bars. Check in Long winded, lifts took a Long time to arrive to 7th floor.\nRoom cleaning but great, left a bag of rubbish \nWoke me at 830 Sunday morning to clean room! \nNot a hotel that I will return to nor recommend

The mess in the picture greeted my partner when she arrived, when I arrived three hours later it was still the same. \n\nThe decor was old and outdated but I expected that because it was clear off the web site. Also - the room had no window - again no problem as it was made clear.\n\nHowever, it was like being in a dungeon. The room had a bad smell - like damp - which was in keeping with the missing ceiling tiles in the corridors and water stains. \n\nThe bed was the worst I\u2019ve ever come across. Double room with two worn out - lumpy - noisy and uncomfortable beds. \n\nI would never return to this hotel. It was seriously bad - don\u2019t be fooled by the entrance- which could lead you into a false sense of security.

Me and my friend booked 2 nights here. We left the hotel after 1 night Only, the beds made us feel like sleeping on 4 hard wood planks from 1832. The room looked like a russian mobster hideout. We asked the reception if we could change room with better beds at least. She just laughed at us and said \

The whole experience has been quite awful. The girl with the Eastern European accent on reception was incredibly rude to everyone - she shouldn\u2019t be working in hospitality. They changed 1 towel on the 1 day (there are 2 of us) and no toilet paper on another? Oh, and you get teabags on rations. Only 2 a day. The train noise is horrendous. Don\u2019t get me started on the mould in the bathroom - both on the roof and in the grout. Yuck. Avoid.

Awful hotel. \n\nGot stuck in the lift. The emergency button was not working. Our room was on the fifth floor, the lift took us to floor 12 then we had to walk back down 14 flights of stairs. After this, we eventually got into our room. Hideous. Hasn't been redecorated since about 1832 (not even convinced I am exaggerating) beds were awful. The floor seemed like a more comfortable option. And then my partner got locked in the bathroom. Had to call reception to get help. The in room phone was not connected. The \

We stayed here for a week the food was excellent and the staff were good but the hotel could do with a revamp upon reading other people's reviews we were not looking forward to staying here the room was ok and the bed was comfortable but who ever owns it needs to spend some money on redecoration as it is looking tired and worn the hotel is always busy so pheraps in the winter months they could make a start on it

Amazed this hotel has the gall to describe itself as either \u2018modern\u2019 or 4 star! \n\nIt\u2019s dated and grubby and decidedly \u2018brown\u2019 (brown carpets, brown furniture etc). Waited over 20 minutes to check in only to be told the \u2018standard double room\u2019 I\u2019d already paid for was just a box room with no space around the bed and would I like to pay \u00A310 more for a different \u2018standard double room\u2019 with more space (but couldn\u2019t tell me the size difference! ) \n\nNeedless to say I won\u2019t be staying again. This is the worst hotel I been at. The first night I order a club sandwich which was dry, terrible and badly cooked. And I saw a mouse runnig between the tables were everyone was eating. \n\nYou could barley see out the windows because of the dirt.\n\nYou couldn't book a night at the reception. You had to call the reception, standing in the reception. \n\nWorst hotel ever.

Stayed there for one night. The hotel is quite warren down and in addition they charge 7\u00A3 per device for Wi-Fi. Arrived at 2 am in the morning and service was quite slow. Got upgraded :-) - all good. Was not\u2019t informed that I had to buy a breakfast voucher at arrival, otherwise there would be an additional charge - I was serviced by the duty manager. Many other better hotels in the area, so choose one of these

not recommended \nroom are rainy, no air conditioning! #44; no free internet in the room. The free internet in the lobby cut every 30 minutes. \nNot enough power sockets in the room. \nThis kind of hotels need to renovate or consider as a one star motel.

I have stayed at this hotel numerous times, due to the very reasonable cost of the room I don't expect a five star hotel. The place is generally worn down and very dated, the rooms very similar but for the price and location some things can be excused. However on my last visit which will be my last we were given a room with no window, no problem however the air intake was clearly not working which meant the room peaked at 35 degrees, this is not acceptable and we were offered. No alternative, I am seeking external advice on this subject. Added to this there was what looked like blood stain on the wall near the tea and coffee facilities which made this unusable and stains on the supposedly fresh towels. The location for canary wharf is fantastic but I would advise on finding an alternative, cleanliness is essential.

Nearly cancelled my booking after reading these awful reviews. Glad I didn\u2019t. The Britannia does need a bit of tender loving care it\u2019s not a modern hotel, but really I just paid \u00A385 for the executive room in London with river view, \nyou have to be realistic. It was very clean and had everything we needed for a great stay. The cheapest room was \u00A352. Check in lady was super friendly, check out lady super unfriendly. Close to tube and close to river ferry. Lovely areas nearby would def stay again. I cannot comment on the cheaper rooms so maybe worth upgrading. But honestly I would stay here again I\u2019ve stayed in much worse! Excellent value for money.

Myself, mum and my two daughters came to London for the night sightseeing. Checked into the hotel, staff were friendly. Went into the room to find only 3 beds supplied and one window completely smashed with a plastic film on it. Absolutely not acceptable. Staff at front desk changed our room to a room with 4 beds in. The evening buffet and the breakfast buffet were not the best meals I've ever eaten. The cab from central London was over \u00A330. My advice would be stay in central London. I wouldn't stay at the Britannia again if they paid me!

Stayed here for 5 days with grandson, was a bit worried after reading the reviews, even thought about cancelling, well glad I didn't, hotel kept clean by a team of willing workers, our room was cleaned everyday and changed towels daily, room was nice yes dated but adds to the charm, food in restaurant was always tasty and warm, had carved meat a stew or goulash fish dish and salads vegs and sauces, always something to take your fancy, and its crowning glory good old fashioned puds apple crumble and custard, rice pudding etc, staff all friendly and polite, ready with a smile and a greeting, all in all a great stay would return.

review: Location was ideal.  Agree with other comments of decor and health & safety issues.  We asked to change rooms because we were given a room on the second floor unfortunately it had very loud air conditioning motors directly outside our window.  We were told we could not change our rooms until the next day so had to lie awake all night on hard beds listening to loud air conditioning motors. Next day we were moved to a quieter room on the eighth floor.
Food was very disappointing we stayed for two nights and requested a vegetarian menu and were give the same vegetable lasagne on the two evening meals.   Food was of poor quality although plentiful, they should focus on quality not quantity.  Tea and coffee provided at breakfast was so poor quality and when we requested fresh tea and coffee it was no better tasted like very cheap instant coffee and was served in vacuum flasks. 
Staff I felt did the best they could and were polite and obliging.

review: i have stayed here three times now and find the hotel very hard to fault although a little way out of central London the hotel is now well served by good tube links direct to Westminster and beyond. Staff are first class and friendly public areas are clean and tidy bar areas have excellent views across the water. Please please lets keep this little gem to ourselves as I may have trouble getting booked up on my next trip regards to all staff at the britannia
