Had dinner here to celebrate my mother's 70th birthday a couple of days ago and couldn't be happier! Great astmosphere, the staff were all extremely attentive and most importantly friendly - they even sang Happy Birthday with us when they delivered the pre-ordered birthday cake! - whilst maintaining the perfect amount of professional distance. The food was also delicious - I fully recommend the homemade bread and butter, the triple-baked smoked haddock souffle and the lamb pie. All in all a very pleasant experience that I look forward to repeating! Couldn't recommend enough. Big thanks to all the staff for making my mum very happy! Cheers!

I haven’t visited the Dean Street Townhouse for a couple of years, but dining once again with a local regular to the venue, my expections were quite high.

We were met on entry (I definitely would not extend that to “greeted”) by a grumpy front-of-house who seemed less than thrilled by our arrival. We stood around waiting for him to take our coats and finally he complied. (I guess I wouldn’t have been thrilled to be working on the night of January 2 either, but then again, that’s his livelihood).

Cut to the chase on the food. We didn’t order a first course and the mains came out suspiciously quickly. My serving of roasted chicken was incredibly generous. However it was very dry and the skin was soft - I had the impression that it had been sitting around all day. At least. Same could be said of the roast potatoes.

Our greens were plain but freshly cooked.
I should add that our host lapped up his serving of mince and potatoes (Yes. True. sounds to me like an English boarding school thing).

My husband didn’t have a problem with his burger and also finished off the other half of my half chicken.

Must have been me. I know I’m fussy.

Mr Grumpy was still at his post when he left and reluctantly retrieved our coats! No way was he going to hold them out for us.

No returning visit from me. sorry.

Had some tasty cocktails before our delicious dinner of fish and chips, mince and potatoes. The food is simple and well cooked, fabulous atmosphere with attentive and professional service. It's not cheap but I thought it worth the money for a pleasant treat in Central London.
