I booked a single room for 2 nights, mainly for it's location and price. The room was a proper single - just room for a single bed with a small table and chair, small wardrobe and bedside table. I had arrived early and couldn't check.

Our room was in the basement. It was dark and cold. The heating didn't work, freezing during the night, uncomfortable bed. There's school playground behind the hotel, very noisy. Great location. We won't be back.

I think the photos kind of speak for themselves, but it would've been a nightmare had we been staying for more than a night. The room was hardly larger than the twin bed, the wallpaper was peeling off, the carpet was stained, the television hardly.

It is maybe a 3 stars hotel, requiring some refurbishiments as son as possible, for instance in my private bathroom. The lighting by the bed is clearly insufficient to read. As pros it has a good location and a staff ready to please and help. All the rest.

One reviewer said to get a sense of humor about this hotel. That is correct. It's not exactly a dump. It does have some quiet charm, but it hasn't been touched in decades. If you don't mind stains and bald places on the carpet, pretty.

Liked: The girl at the reception was very kind and tried to help me as she could. She finally arranged to change my room that I appreciated a lot.
Disliked: When I reserved it was indicated that breakfast was included but actually it was not. I had to pay some extra 20 pounds at my arrival for a deposit, that is what the girl at the reception told me at my arrival and I don't know if, when and how this money will be returned. (She told me that it was just in case somthing was missing or damaged but I think that I will never have this money back! ). I had to access the room from the stairs that smell strangely. The room was super small, the heating didn't work and it was so cold, especially in the bathroom that it was difficult even to take a shower. The pillow were slim and hard as a rock I wake up frozen and with a horrible headache. Luckly the second girl at the reception, that was so much nicer than her collegue, gave me the possibility to change the room. The second room was still very small but definitely better.

Disliked: The expectation based on pictures/rating was much higher than what was there in reality. Not worth the price I paid for. I had to go through the fire exit to go to the room allocated to me. Hotel very tired and bathroom facilities well below standard (Old fashioned shower head). The hotel is in need of major renovation. Wi-Fi didn't work properly.

Liked: Hotel very tired and bathroom facilities well below standard and in need of major renovation.
Disliked: The bedrooms and en-suite were tired and shabby. I paid in advance £129 for 'deluxe double' bed only. I was required to give my debit card to be charged an extra £20 refundable for 'potential damage' and was advised it would be 'held' for 3 weeks then returned. I rejected the first room offered (24 basement) as holes in carpet, stale tobacco/dust smell, extension lead in front of the furniture with 4 plugs (fire and trip hazard), and bathroom grout unclean. Returned at 1600hrs when reallocated room 203 and realised the shabbiness was consistent. I stayed only as I had already paid. Henry Hoover as a trip hazard each time I left the lift (basement and 2nd floor). On check out I was advised that refurbishment was due in January 2019 and if I had paid more the sister premises opposite was better.

Hotel looks great from the street view and the location is excellent but the experience is downhill from there. Rooms very tired and bathroom was third world. No bar and restaurant across the road. Not a hotel. Back to hotel chains for quick London visits in.

Liked: The staff were lovely, really friendly and helpful in directing me somewhere to get food and also ordering a taxi in the morning.
Disliked: Facilities were poor - no place to eat in the evening and breakfast was over the road at the sister hotel. Room was on the lower ground floor (felt like going down into a dungeon) and was very cold, there was a heater in the wardrobe but this was then either on or off. To get the bedside lamp to work I had to move an extension lead around and there were three of these in use (daisy chain) in the room, this was really poor and also a H&S risk. Bed was very uncomfortable and the onsite bathroom was a joke with not much hot water either. The wardrobe it appeared was being used a storage cupboard (had two spare safe units in it), and the lighting could only be operated from by the door which was around the corner from the bed area. I may have just got a poor room but it was not a good experience at all. Breakfast over the road was also poor, only one member of staff serving so took ages, she was lovely and trying her best though. Breakfast itself was poor - ran out of orange juice, eggs were raw, beans were cold and no brown bread/toast available. Not an experience I would be keen to repeat.

Liked: The staff on reception were friendly and helpful at check in - no issues with them at all. The hotel is in a great location with several restaurants, museums and a tube station very close by. The bedding and towels were all clean.
Disliked: Our room 307 was a shocker! Not a bad size for London hotel but - window didn't open; one pane glass cracked right across; extremely noisy free standing air conditioner unit taking up a good deal of floor space (if off, you roasted - if on, you could hardly hear yourself think); 1 armchair with torn fabric and no stuffing left in seat pad; carpet needs replacing; bathroom needs renewing. Can't drink tap water in rooms! Not sure why we didn't ask to be moved but perhaps because we were exhausted from a Long day out in London and didn't have the energy to do so. Star rating needs to be dropped.

Disliked: It's an ageing hotel. I had the following problems with my room, which I had booked as a non-refundable for 11 nights: 1- ac was not working, and another ac unit was placed on the floor with a tube that's supposed to stick out of the window but it kept falling, and it took 3 visits over 3 days to finally fix it. I was offered another room with an ac that didn't really work 2- I had to change my room card everyday because the card reader and cards didn't always work. In the end, I got locked outside the room twice and it took approx 2 hours to get someone to change the battery of the lock system. The staff apologized and said that everything is old and needs replacement. 3- The mattress was extremely uncomfortable I requested for a refund multiple times based on the discomfort that I was facing, but all I got was sorry can't do anything about that.

We were moving, so we had a large number of bags and two small children. We asked for assistance with our bags and the bellhop seriously just rode in the tiny elevator and let us struggle. Ok, that is fine, I wont tip. We get to.

We booked online a de-luxe room at this supposedly 4 star hotel in a good position in south Kensington. When we arrived we had to pay up front then were directed to room 36 on the ground floor. Tiny, airless, no natural light, horrendous! Needless.

review: We came for Chelsea flower show and this delightful little hotel was just convenient place to stay. The location is ideal and the service superb! I do not hesitate recommending the Gainsborough hotel to anyone. Bon Bouche deli is on the little side street off Old Brompton road. Yummy place to go for paninis. Enjoy London.
