I have been staying in this hotel for work, on and off, for the past six months, and it has frustrated me more and more to the point where in true British fashion I have to grumble about it on the Internet.\n\nFirst, the check-in experience. There is absolutely no benefit to being Spire Elite. They offer no welcome amenity beyond what you receive as Platinum, no water, no chocolate, nowt - just 500 points. They used to give you a voucher for a welcome drink, but decided to withdraw this. I will note that they offer free parking. I will also note that there are a couple of super friendly staff members, notably a chap called Sidney, who sadly is leaving, presumably to work somewhere better.\n\nGiven that they have the cheek to charge \u00A3103 per night at our corporate rate and given that we are outside the M25 you'd imagine that this hotel would be immaculate. Not so. Whilst the lobby is fairly pleasant, the stairwells, the corridors and the rooms are tired, threadbare and in most cases fairly grimy. Carpets are worn, curtains feel a little greasy, shower heads are limescale caked, shower curtains don't quite fit the bath, etc etc.\n\nThe rooms have no plug sockets near the beds, often no mini-fridges, and the most basic non-steam irons common to Expresses (business travellers will know the importance of a good steam iron). Mattresses are extremely uncomfortable and cheap. Pillows are foam and nasty. I will say though that the air-conditioning is often working and the Wi-Fi is of high quality.\n\nThere are executive rooms here but either they don't like my face or Spire Elites don't get upgraded. They fallaciously claim to be \

Where do I start. This is the 2nd time I\u2019ve used the holiday inn brand and both times it hasn\u2019t been pleasant. Yes all facilities are here and location brilliant but staff and management seems to let it down. Train some decent staff and it would of been an \u201Cgood\u201D stay! \n1st I\u2019ve booked an family room gave us an twin bed room which needed rectifying \n2nd room telephone was not\u2019t working (so had to pop down to request things\n3th asked front desk regarding \u201Ckids eat free\u201D offer said that it applies to all menu at restaurants, when we eaten and ask for bill we were fully charged for all items eaten and was informed that this is not included at this section of the restaurant and only applies to the kids menu only! Will I stay at holiday inn again, properly never! Just a warning to others.

Never again was meant to be a special celebration and the dinner was awful saturated in salt, , and the pizza which my hubby had, because there was no chicken on the menu looked like a giant crisp with ketchup on and you really had to look for the cheese we paid for it with our room so no chance of getting our money back we complained but all we got was a free cocktail, , disgraceful.

Booked hotel with dinner bed and breakfast, but then told we had \u00A328 towards dinner, no chic or fish on menu, dinner menu was not the same as was in the room, food to heavy on the salt I had pizza as I can't eat red meat, do not like pasta, so not much choice, pizza was like a popadom with Tom half on it, food went back total waste of money, room had an office chair in it, fell over as could not get pass, had to put it in the corner of the room, the room was quite, bed comfortable, will not be going back to this hotel, food let it down big time.

Before I start, loverly rooms, food, and room\nBut the reception staff (ones on night duty) Mel and her colleague need to to go to school to learn some Customer skills.\nAbsolutely dreadful and honestly have not got a clue and how are these two people honestly greeting people the way they do.\nTried calling them for half an hour with no answer so had to go all the way down their and while I\u2019m their was watching them stand their chatting with phone ringing in the back ground.\nDisgraceful and will not be coming back as were so unhelpful and honestly they don\u2019t care about their customers, obviously just there for a pay check rather than wanting to be there.

Check in was fine and found my room ok. First impression were that refurbishment was needed badly. The decor is jaded and badly needs a revamp. At \u00A3130 a night with high occupancy they can afford it.\nIn saying that the room was clean enough and comfortable with a television, iron & board but a bit mean with the toiletries.\nI noted that the bar areas have been revamped since I last visited for a meeting and were well appointed and comfortable.\nFor a change I had opted for breakfast and was pleasantly surprised to have a full English that was well presented, hot and tasty.

Haven\u2019t been here for a while, however they have spent a lot of money on the reception and restaurant/bar area.\nsome money spent on customer service training wouldn\u2019t go amiss as the receptionist was the most uninviting I have come across for a while. I only got my Platinum points after she noticed from the form as she was giving me my key. No warm welcome, thanks for being a member etc. Not impressed.\nThe rooms on the other hand have had no money spent on them. They are still the same tired old rooms from yesteryear. Albeit they are clean, however they need updating urgently.\nMy sink was blocked and despite reporting this, nothing was done. Fabulous reception team for ignoring me again.\nOverall a hotel for business. I wouldn\u2019t use it if it was not\u2019t handy for one of our sites.\nIt needs some love and a bit more zest from the reception team\nRestaurant is also overpriced with mediocre fayre. A separate review has been done for this.

Very good! On arrival I had a mistake on my booking by all was sorted very quick! Staff were very helpful and always handy. The gym and pool area were very clean and easy to access! Stayed there with my team mates for team night out at sugar hut.
