My boyfriend and I recently stayed at the Shangri-La while visiting London for the first time and loved it! Staying here hit two birds with one stone, a nice play to return to at night from the bustle of the city and the epic views you get from your room (instead of having to wait in the Long queue to the viewing deck of The Shard).

The staff were incredible, super welcoming and helpful in every way. The rooms themselves are also amazing. True to Shangri-La form, the amenities were stylish and the rooms were tastefully decorated. We've stayed in the Vancouver location (also loved it) but the London location was just so neat by being in The Shard!

Absolutely fantastic experience. Cannot rate this hotel highly enough. Superb suite with awesome views. Onsite facilities including Ting restaurant and Gong bar are also excellent, Weldon everyone for looking after us.

We came as a family today for Afternoon Tea. The food and tea were both very nice but the service was appallingly and embarrassingly slow for a 5 star hotel. 45 minutes before we received anything. We had to ask for a top up of tea and it took a further 20 minutes. It was so slow we were unable to take in the View from the Shard. There is more but I don’t want to spoil the surprise. Disappointing is a polite word for what I am feeling having paid a lot.

When pointing this out to the head waiter that had not Long come on shift it was apparent that he knew there were issues with staff training but that management did nothing about it. After refusing to pay the 12.5% (! ) service charge and being interrupted when pointing out the shortcomings we were eventually offered 50% off the bill which was fair enough. However that does not make up for an experience that will not be replaced.

Perhaps if management read this they may begin to get the message.

If you go, be prepared for poor service and your expectations will be met.

Dear GlobeTrotting823226,

Thank you for taking the time to review your recent visit to Shangri-La Hotel, at the Shard, London!

It is so great to hear that you loved your Iconic City View Room on Level 50, with all its smart equipment and of course the spectacular views across the city of London!

With regards to our facilities, allow me to apologise for the inconvenience you experienced.
We are indeed really fortunate to have our SkyPool located on Level 52 of The Shard, making it the highest swimming pool in Western Europe. It certainly provides amazing views but also comes with limited space due to the architecture and design of the building, as you could notice.

Despite this, we are very glad that you were able to enjoy your experience with us and we certainly hope to see you again very son!

Best regards,

Kurt Macher
General Manager

I was here for business and absolutely loved every minute of my stay, and I can imagine that this would be an amazing hotel for couples and family as well.

The view alone is spectacular, of course. Whatever angle you look from, you are afforded a panoramic view of central and south London.

The staff are warm and considerate and remember your preferences, without being intrusive. They are also proactive in offering to help - from the moment I stepped out of the cab, they came forward to insist on helping with every single piece of luggage except my handbag (this is not universally common across all 5 star hotels)

The room was incredibly comfortable and spacious, fitted out with all the fixtures that you’d expect a 5 star hotel to have. Every small detail that impacts guest experience has been thought of and provided for, from automated blackout blinds to a freestanding bathtub from which you can enjoy the view with a glass of red.

The view from the pool is another sight altogether. It is on the 52nd floor, the same level as the Gong bar, and few (if any) other buildings in London can boast of anything similar.

Just before this, I stayed at another 5 star hotel in central London that the Shangri-La exceeded in every single way. They really got it right.

My only regret is that I was not’t here with family to enjoy the experience together!

As an Anniversary treat, I booked a one night stay.

First impressions very impressive.

The room, wow what a let down. The only thing it had was a spectacular view. The wall paper was peeling and generally the room and bathroom was tired and dated. I think we were given an old worn room.

The plug sockets didn’t work. Rang reception and an engineer sorted it very quickly. That was great.

The hot / cold taps were / are the wrong way round 🙄. Again it caused some confusion.

We were given two complimentary glasses of expensive champagne and that was a lovely gesture. 👍🏻

On checking out they added ££’s to our bill for no reason. I queried it and at first there was a hesitation and then the receptionist realised I was correct. She was very apologetic.

Please check your bill when checking out. I doubt this is the first time this has happened.

Go to the viewing gallery for the views but I don’t think the hotel is worth the prices to stay. That’s my personal opinion.
.

We’ve just spent one night, plus dinner and breakfast at the Shard.
Plus points - fabulous view. We had a great view of Tower Bridge and the Thames, and the shard itself is really well situated. It’s very close to Borough Market and the tube, and many interesting places within easy walking distance. The Doorman was exceptionally friendly, welcoming and professional. A lovely man indeed. Dinner was superb and our table had the view of Tower Bridge- beautiful as the sun set and it grew dark. Dining room staff were lovely. Very friendly and approachable.
Negative points - when we checked in, the girl at reception completelY ignored me and onlY referred to my husband. I couldn’t believe it. She didn’t look at me, smile, include me in the conversation or even seem to notice that there was another human being standing next to my husband. Even he said “why isn’t she talking to you?” I did actually feel invisible. It was upsetting, rude and completely unprofessional. In the room, before breakfast, I pressed down on the liquid soap dispenser which shot a squirt of soap with black bits all up my arm and across my new white top. I had to wear my evening blouse to breakfast and eventually had to throw the top out, as it is permanently damaged. We were surprised when we saw it was a buffet breakfast. Although I enjoyed my continental breakfast, my husbands Full English was cold and over cooked.
For a 5* hotel we were disappointed with a buffet breakfast and the fact that small details (the soap dispenser couldn’t have been cleaned or checked) were lacking. And finally, the poor welcome at check in was very upsetting.

We stayed in an Iconic City View room which was lovely. 180 degree views of the city from the room including from the bath. You have a choice of looking at St Pauls or watching television while in the bath. Unfortunately the room was not ready when we arrived so they let us use the pool and called when the room was ready. I couldn't believe there was one changing room and my wife and I stood dripping wet in the lobby for 20 minutes while a woman finisher make up.
The next day we were offered breakfast which I assumed was included but were charged £70 for some weak coffee, overcooked bacon and eggs that had seen better days and that was at 7am. Such as shame as it's a lovely hotel but we will not be returning due to the above events. For over £700 for one night you would expect far better!

Wow. Everything at this hotel is wow. We had a premier shard room which was exquisite, great views, fabulous amenities. We stayed during a heatwave in London and were very thankful to be able to return to a beautifully air conditioned property and made good use of the swimming pool, even though it is indoors. There are regulated swimming times so that you don't have to share the pool with rowdy children - the very pleasant pool attendants turf out any unruly children who have overstayed their time in the pool! Fabulous buffet breakfast and excellent Afternoon Tea. Overall, a wonderful experience.

My recent 3 night stay (business trip) was perfectly fine, though I probably would not stay there again for personal preference. The hotel is very new and has great views over the city, but I prefer staying in Mayfair or Knightsbridge for Hyde Park access and the shopping.

Pros:

1. Asian hotel style amenities, like toothbrush, toothpaste, razor as a matter of course.
2. Nespresso machine, but in addition tea service and milk for coffee
3. Views
4. Asian style Toto toilet

Cons:

1. While understandable in order to be high up for the views, you needed to go up 2 elevators to get to room.
2. No newspaper as a matter of course
3. Was surprised that for an Asian hotel, no fruit in the room.

I would recommend the Shangri-la, it just was not to my taste.

Our family trip had a amazing two night stay (July 18th - July 20th, 2019) at the most beautiful hotel in London. We had two spectacular rooms on the 43rd floor with a panoramic view of The London Eye, Tower Bridge, London Bridge, Buckingham Palace, etc. The room was incredible, even including binoculars, and details of where to look for the specific attractions as you look out the room window. As son as we arrived, we received a wonderful welcome gift, the amenities were great, included bathrobes, toiletries, combs, hair dryer, sewing kit, etc. This will definitely be my only choice of hotel for my next London trip. The staff was amazing, friendly, courteous, helpful, and went out of their way to make sure our stay was the best it could be. I highly recommend this hotel and will tell you it is worth every penny!

My husband and I almost exclusively stay in Airbnbs when we travel to Europe, preferring to have the extra space of a living room and a full kitchen. But when we discovered the Shangri-La at the Shard we decided to splurge on a 4-night stay. We are both architecture lovers, so that combined with the views made it an easy decision and one we are so glad we made!

We were greeted by super friendly concierge when we arrived late at night, they directed us to the hotel lobby which is actually an elevator ride up. The vibe at the hotel was a bit trendier than what we usually prefer, but everyone working was beyond nice and helpful without much pretension.

We booked the Superior Shard Room but were then offered an upgrade at the hotel for a small additional cost. We were told the room had better views but was a similar size, but unfortunately not sure exactly which one it was. Our room on the 48th floor was spacious and luxurious, with tons of little touches like a heated towel rack, different types of pillows, and robes/slippers - but of course, the real show stopper was the amazing views of everything from the London Eye to the Tower Bridge. We absolutely loved being able to take it all in from sunrise to moonlight from the floor to ceiling windows. We also appreciated there being space for a desk, as well as very fast Wi-Fi - these facets are important to us as we need to check in with work regularly when we travel.

We went to the rooftop bar one night where we were quickly accommodated though we didn't have a reservation. The drinks were a bit overpriced and overly sweet, but the music, views, and vibe made it worth the expense! We were happy we decided to stop in.

A few things to note- if you value your privacy this may not be the hotel for you. Though the hotel has automatic blinds for the floor-to-ceiling windows to utilize, if you are not using them, there is a very obvious reflection and you can easily see into the rooms next door to you and vice versa. It was a bit jarring the first time I noticed it, but coming from a large city not a huge deal to me.

The room service (which we ordered late our first night after we arrived), was very expensive for the quality and portion size. But of course, it's wonderful to have 24-hour service available.

The location was great - you're right next to a train station and Borough Market. And there are tons of options for food, drink, and groceries/essentials a short walk away. We also enjoyed being able to walk across the London and Tower Bridges.

We absolutely loved our time in London and at the Shangri-La, and would stay again in a heartbeat!

Was a bit wary at spending so much on 3 nights in a hotel but it was worth it ! The hotel was beautiful, and the staff so friendly and helpful. The room was wonderful and the bed huge, but the view is what makes it worth the money ! I cannot explain how amazing it was to go to sleep with the blinds open and the the lights of London all around. Then wake up to the sun rising over the city. If you want something special go to this hotel !
