| Covent Garden
is one of those most see places for anyone visiting London. Surrounded
by an area rich in bars, restaurants, shops and theatres, Covent Garden
is best known for its street buskers, market and piazza. The piazza is a
covered section filled with bars and restaurants and shops. Covent
Garden itself is right in the heart of London surrounded by theatres,
restaurants and pubs on all sides. The history of Covent Garden in its present form goes back to the 1630’s when the land was redeveloped by the 4th Earl of Bedford and Indigo Jones as the first public Square in the UK. It was ongoing development for many years with the current Piazza being constructed in 1830. For many years Covent Garden was home to the popular flower market but this moved to its current home in Nine Elms Lane, Battersea, in 1973. Covent Garden today is a bustling area both during the daytime and the nighttime popular with both Londoners and visitors to London. |
