Photos of London Bridge

London Bridge was first constructed by the Romans in approximately AD 46. In 1014 the bridge was destroyed by arson, destroyed by a storm in 1091 and then destroyed by fire again in 1136. A new London Bridge was again constructed in 1831 to replace the ageing centuries old London Bridge. In 1968 the outdated and by now sinking London Bridge was sold to the American Robert P. McCulloch for $2,460,000 and transported bit by bit to Lake Havasu City, Arizona. This version of London Bridge is now Arizona's second biggest tourist attraction. The replacement again opened in 1973. The bridge spans 928 feet (283 metres). Many visitors confuse London Bridge with Tower Bridge, probably due to the bland look of the current London Bridge compared to the grand looking Tower Bridge and the bridges being adjacent.
London Bridge runs from the City of London by Monument on the North side to Southwark by London Bridge Station on the south side of the River Thames.
