GENERAL TRAVEL INFORMATION
Stansted airport is named after the nearby village called Stansted Mountfitchet which is just under 2 miles from the airport. Although the airport has just one terminal the departure gates can be some way from the main departure lounge. For the ones furthest away a monorail train shuttles passengers between the gates and lounge. ![]() M25 The M25 is the orbital motorway that encompasses the whole of greater London. In fact in practical terms the M25 now determines the areas considered to be within London by being a man border around it. Stansted Airport is located just over 20 miles from the M25, an almost straight run along the M11. Gatwick Airport, Heathrow Airport and Luton Airport are also located very close to the M25 motorway which means travel by road to each of these airports is most practically travelled via the M25 even though the distances are far greater than travelling in a straight line. The coach station is located below between Zone C and D of the Short Stay Car Park. This is actually below the level of the terminal although its still an open air car park and coach station. Access to the terminal is via ramp and walkway. In the main terminal is a coach ticket desk open 6 am till 9.30 pm and you can also buy tickets in the coach station itself 24/7. Tickets can also bought on the coaches themselves. Companies serving Stansted include National Express, First Great Western, Arriva, Excel and First National.
