This particular part of London is Clerkenwell but better known as Barbican thanks to the large Barbican Arts Complex just 0.3 miles from the hotel. Directly south of the hotel is the historic St Pauls Cathedral (0.5 miles) while the Museum of London is even closer at 0.3 miles. Local places of interest include Smithfield's Meat Market (1/4 of a mile) which has been located here for over 800 years. While there are shops and restaurants in the surrounding area this is really a business district with many facilities shutting at night and weekends. You will have to take a short taxi ride eats or west for a wider choice of venues and facilities. Public transport links are excellent with a tube station less than 200 yards and many bus routes running along Goswell Road. Taxis are also plentiful in this busy area (weekdays).
