Located right alongside the O2 Arena (aka Millennium Dome) gives the Intercontinental London – The O2 one of the most enviable locations in south London. Just on the southern side of the River Thames just opposite The Docklands and London City Airport on the north side of the Thames and the local area is known as The Greenwich peninsula. If you do need to get over to either of these areas the good news is your right alongside The Blackwall Tunnel which is part of the A102 main road. The A102 links with the A12 and A406 North Circular Roads for good links all around London by road. For rail links you are just 0.24 miles (6 minutes walk) from North Greenwich tube station on the Jubilee line which links into central and north London directly. Alternatively its just 528 yards (482 metres) to the Emirates cable car which takes you to the north side of the Thames. Of course the biggest draw for this location is the O2 Arena where major events are held daily. This is also a handy location for anyone competing in the London marathon as the starting point for the marathon is just 2 miles (3.2 km) south on Greenwich Park in Blackheath. London City Airport is just 2.1 miles (3.4 km) to the northeast measured as the crow flys (straight line). The Excel centre is even closer at 1.4 miles (2.3 km) but because they are both on the other side of the river the actual journey by road is much longer as you need to use the Blackwall Tunnel. However you can use the Emirates Cable car which goes straight over the Thames to The excel centre.
History: Officially opened by Cliff Richard in July 2016, although the soft opening had already taken place in December 2015.
Queensgate Investments sold its 50% stake in the Intercontinental O2 Arena to Arora Hotels in June 2016.
