Background:
The hotel takes its name from Viscount Lanesborough who built his home on this
spot in 1719. It was to become the St Georges Hospital and remained so between
1733 and 1980. Between 1825 and 1829 the original structure was demolished and a
totally building emerged on the same spot. The hotel was shut down for good in
1980. In 1987 the building was again subject to major renovation, in reality a
reconstruction while retaining the original facade and opened as the
Lanesborough Hotel for the first time on December 30th 1991 under the Rosewood
Hotels ownership. They set the designer the task of creating the look and feel
of a Regency country home and the result is a hotel with class and style.
In March 2007 the hotel was the first ever hotel in the UK to offer its guests
free unlimited landline phonecalls. In 2009 became the first London hotel to
offer complimentary laptop hire.
