Just what exactly constitutes a boutique hotel is become more and more diluted. Originally the concept was a hotel small enough to offer an intimate and personalised service in a luxurious setting and/or with a quirky/hip/individual style and feel. The term has been used mostly here in the UK and in North America though now it's being used globally and with a more liberal and promotional interpretation. These days hotel that are simply small in size and with with a recent refurbishment or contemporary décor are using the tag Boutique to promote themselves. There's also a crossover between Townhouse Hotels and Boutique, with hotels once marketed as the former now marketed as the latter. For the purposes of this page we are presenting hotels that fit closer with the original concept of boutique hotels. We include only hotels with 90 rooms or less and of 4 star grade or higher.
