Guests choosing this hotel will often do so given its great location for accessing the City of London, also called the square mile and known as London's financial centre. Its really the capitals business district. While you will need to cross one of the several bridges, probably Southwark bridge or Blackfriars bridge, its a quick hop by taxi. The benefit of being just over the water (of the River Thames) is that there's a big drop in accommodation costs allowing budget chains such as the Premier Inn and Ibis to over good value rates while still in close proximity to far more expensive areas for hotels. That's not to say the hotel doesn't offer quick access to the mean west end where the night life is found, because again its just a hop over one of the nearby bridges, probably waterloo. If you prefer the tube (London's underground train system) then its just a seven minute ride into central London. And of course there's a lot going on in the surrounding area of Southwark. There is a thriving high street along Southwark Bridge Road with the South Bank also within 1/3rd of a mile. As the name of the hotel implies, the major attraction of the Tate Modern is within 250 yards (three minute walk). There are plenty of restaurants, bars and shops surrounding the hotel and other nearby places of interest include Shakespeare's Globe Theatre (0.3 miles) and the London Dungeons (0.6 miles).
Note: Be careful not to confuse this hotel with the similarly named Premier Inn Southwark Borough Market.
